As we near the end of the bridge, we start to see rows and rows of cars stopped with no lights on. The bus tries to stop as well, but we can't seem to stop fast enough. We hit a car. And another. Five cars hit. Now it's impossible to know how many!
We come to a dead stop. It's very dark and I look out the front window of the bus and see that Seattle is completely devastated; no buildings are lit. There is smoke rising from the center of the city and a number of buildings have collapsed: most are completely leveled. Those that are still standing are only frames. The freeway is cracked not too far ahead of us. The cars near the end of the bridge are in danger of falling straight into the canal.
Where are the people? There are no people! I feel a sense of dread: it's just us on this bus.
The sky is ashen, there is very little light and Seattle is dead. Quickly we realize that it must have been a nuclear bomb or something just as bad. The thought occurs to me that we should turn around and get out of here as quickly as possible to limit our radiation exposure if it was a nuclear bomb...
I wake up and I am sufficiently disconcerted.
